We have been in our semi-permanent location in the islands region as we wait to begin our bush orientation. A bunch of guys, including Spencer, are going to work on a house in a village that has a strong body of believers for a few days. There is a shell of a house that just needs to be put together a little so it can be livable for 6-8 weeks (or maybe more) for us to move in. This is trip one of three, and the hope is future church planters learning Tok Pisin will also be able to do their bush orientation here. The “plan,” is for us to move out on week 3.
Lord willing, we will be out there in about two weeks. A longer, more detailed update to come!
Note: Bush orientation is a big “trial run,” if you will of what it is like to live in an isolated location as missionaries. To help you, as the missionary, prepare better for allocation into an unreached people. For example, you gain more insight into their worldview and how to, “become more PNG,” so we may win some (1 Corinthians 9). It also is a great way to get to know national believers and make friends while making bounds in your culture/language studies - that’s the fun part! We are excited to get going!
