Meet our team!
Since June, the men on the team have taken three survey trips to the East side of New Britain, PNG. The first trip, was to a town called Kokopo, where they spent a few days checking out what stores and supplies are available. The second trip was to different town that borders the language group we are looking into. We had a contact in that place who was able to give us a lot of good information regarding locations of villages in this targeted people group, details on roads and their conditions, and connected us with some of the local government officials.
We then sent a letter to the LLG (Local Level Government) that oversees this area to notify them of our plan to visit and share with them information about who we are as a mission and what exactly we do. After sending the letter ahead, we made our first trip into the people group. That trip happened two weeks ago. On that survey we visited many villages along the coast communicated that we as a mission commit to 4 things: Learning their language and culture, teaching them to read and write in their language, translating the Word of God into their language, and teaching them the truth of God’s Word in their language.
The second part of this survey will happen next week when we visit the villages in the mountains. After this trip is complete, we will remain at Hoskins (the mission center) and wait. In this set period of time we anticipate getting multiple requests from villages for us to come live with them and do the work we said we would do. After the requests come, we will sit down with our team and mission leaders and decide which villages are best to survey further and then select one to move into.
We are all excited to be close to potentially start working and building relationships amongst this people group. It seems quite sobering as well. In training, we were repeatedly told that day 1 affects day 100. What we do now will affect the ministry in 5, 10, and 20+ years. If this is the people group that God has for us, day one is here. Please join us in prayer for these people, wisdom, and steadfastness in the Lord for our whole team. As always, pray for open doors and open hearts.
