Final Phase of Orientation (May 2024)

We are excited to be moving into a remote location to complete our last part the New Tribes orientation program, tomorrow! This ‘bush orientation’ time will be around 2 months where we will continue learning the pidgin language, be immersed in remote village life, and serve the local church. At the end of our time, elders of the church will evaluate our family as it pertains to us moving into an unreached people group to share the gospel. This village is mostly believers who were saved around 20 years ago when missionaries brought their tribe the gospel. We are really looking forward to spending 2 months with them and receiving guidance from their insider perspective.
Overall, our family is doing well. We have settled into a good routine of learning language over the last few months and our kids love having so many other kids to play with here on the New Tribes Center. We are starting into teammate conversations with two other couples and are excited about where God is leading all three of our families. Thank you for praying for us and standing behind us! As we think back over our 8 months in PNG we are grateful of how God has led us, continually provided and protected, and is giving us assurance moving forward.

The kids playing games in Sunday school at our PNG national church. Love these guys!

Praise God with us that we’re learning this language! Last week a consultant evaluated where we are at in terms of fluency, and I, Spencer, am at level 8 out of 9, and Kayla is at level 5! (Disparity is because Kayla does homeschool and housework in addition to language study, and she’s doing great!)

Pray for us learning language while in bush orientation. With me being almost done, I can do more homeschooling, looking after the kids, and cooking… pray for us! Haha, but really, we are excited about how much time Kayla will be able to spend with people and accelerate her language learning.
Pray for us to walk humbly with the Lord, and that our ministry would continue to be an overflow from our relationship with God – showing people His love and loving people well.
Pray for our family during this bush orientation two months. That it would be a sweet time of growing closer as a family, that we would model a Christ centered family unit well, and that our kids would enjoy the time of making new Papua New Guinea friends.

Thanks again for praying. It will be neat to share in two months about what God has done!
